About the series:
Body of Thought is a series of paintings inspired by the endless flow of deeply rooted questions, fears and insecurities that constantly bombard us.  The pieces illustrate subtle facial expressions and simple hand gestures that attempt to capture and expose the feelings and thoughts we display both consciously and subconsciously.  The resulting characters reveal the subtle body language with which we all communicate on a primordial level.

About my process:
After working on sculpture, painting and drawing separately for many years, I have recently developed a new technique allowing me to merge these mediums together in a two-dimensional space.  This unique process was created out of a long time desire to breathe life and colour into my sculpture work.  The resulting paintings seem to trick the eye while creating the illusion of a 3rd dimension.

Short breakdown of my process:
  • Creating miniature clay sculptures of faces and hands;
  • Photographing the sculptures and printing the images on watercolour paper;
  • Creating a collage of the images on large watercolour paper;
  • Using gestural pencil line work to unite the individual elements;
  • Using watercolour paint to add colour and texture to the images.
